I have a very compact stocky Peruvian (Poncho). I unfortunately have no idea about his bloodlines because I did not get his papers. I rescued him out of a neglectful situation. I have been told he has the "old style" look.
I am no longer an owner, having lost my gelding this year at age 28 to colic. But one day when my kids are older and need less of my time, I will get another Peruvian. I am a DVM, teaching anatomy in Kansas.
Sorry to read you lost your gelding. It is hard to lose a horse especially one at his age. But good to see another veterinarian who enjoys the breed.I hope to see you on a Peruvian soon.
Oh yes...now I remember. The picture is great and he looks wonderful there. I believe that there might be a conformation discussion on this site and I do hope that you will join it.
Great to see you on this site. It is extremely interesting and I love the pictures and video's.

Mary, I am at Kansas State. We exchanged e-mails in February when I lost my horse, who had been bred by Jo Ward (that's him, Paraiso, in the picture, taken in 2004). Yes, I teach anatomy of the horse in the spring semester. I am very interested in the suspensory ligament/connective tissue issues, since I had a mare that had a lifetime of lameness due to suspensory degeneration. However, I do not do any research - my appointment is 100% teaching.
Hi Judy, Thanks for adding me as your friend. I joined PHW quite a while ago but have been working non-stop at our profession for the last month. I'll be in Joplin this weekend and have been at Cobblestone Vet Hospital all this week. I am going horse camping this coming week at Golden Hills and boy, do I need the break. Take care. Deb
