Stillwell Ranch Ride

I have had the pleasure of attending several trail rides here in Texas in the past 3 months. The first one this year, was the Stillwell Ranch Trail Ride down at Big Bend. I was also very privilaged to have a very good friend of mine from Michigan come down and join me on this ride,… Continue

Great Day

I posted a picture of a cute little gray Peruvian Paso Mare in my pics. That cute little mare used to live around the corner from me 11 years ago. She was my introduction to the Peruvian Paso breed, even if it was, only at a distance. When I first saw Nadia, and her wonderfully fancy footfall, I was mezmerized, by her gracefullness and her beauty. Years have passed since then. I moved away from that wonderful little town of Bronte TX, and my husband and I relocated to Abilene TX. When we moved t… Continue

It was too hard to have a prepurchase exam done on Doc, she didn't have a regular vet, they did it themselves. So I had an exam done when I got him him home, and had his legs ultrasounded for DSDL. there was a slight swelling in his back legs. but he had been SHOD same as the other quarter horses she had and his feet were very long when he got home. swelling has gone down and he has been brought back down to normal angle and length and barefoot. so haven't had the ultrasound redone and won't unless I notice any changes in his legs.

i I went with a friend earlier this week to look at horses and she bought a black walker, 8 yrs old. She hasn't had horses in years, and she has had walkers in the past. The seller asked if I had a horse and when I said I had a Peruvian she said her sister had one, but she had to sell it because of problems with her ankles, which "is common with Peruvians because of the paddling". I didn't even get into it with her. Because they are so rare in MI I think there is a lot of prejudice against them. So looking forward to my friend and I hitting the trails again as of old.

So sad when we lose our animal companions, can't imagine losing so many in such a short amount of time. Know how hard it is to find the right horse. Good luck to your husband. Sometimes it's a once in a lifetime connection. Got the trailer and truck, now getting them ready to go. Got the hitch & electric brake put on truck. getting new tires for trailer this week. It is Eminence, MO that my sisters go to every year. Hopefully Robin will be able to go this year. Her husband has just completed treatment and it looks very good.

it is weird that they react to him that way, but it's true!!! I'll have to look up his papers to see what his full name is. He is registered in Canada. He was in PA for six years and now in Michigan.

Oh, just one more thing - the Missouri foxtrotter and the spotted saddle horse don't like the sound of Doc's feet, the beat sound is so different it still is startling to them.

I bought a gooseneck trailer last week and a pickup on Monday. I had sold my trailer after Bo died as I didn't think I would be riding again, until decided to see if I could ride again. Now that I have wheels I would love to hook up with Levi to have him work with Doc and me. Isn't "Doc" a strange name for a Peruvian?? but it's part of his registered name. He's from Canada. His previous owner taught him a lot. She had him in a snaffle, and when we took the Richard Shrake clinic he said Doc needed a different kind of bit. We got an Amish made trail bridle for Christmas. So getting together to go on the trail ride!!

One of my sisters lives in Little Rock!! My sisters have been meeting up in Missouri for a week trail ride for the last four years, but not this year as the Arkansas sister's husband was diagnosed with cancer this past fall. He's doing better now, thank God. Anyway, I hear the stories of their adventures on those mountains and I am not in any way anxious to do that. No mountains in my future. I've had health issues since retiring and am now getting ready to start enjoyiing my horse come spring!!!

Hi Susan - I've been a member of MTRA since the early 80's. Have 5 trophies for crossing the state. The first time on a quarter horse, not doing that again!! then crossed on a TW, who didn't take a smooth step the whole 2 weeks. Some horses flip out when they go on the trail ride. they get overstimulated and cannot settle into the life. So many horses, so much going on, etc. Then I found the late great Bo, who got me across the state three times. We haven't gone on the trail ride in years. Horses got old, most of our group got young horses, etc. Now the youngest of the horses is 4, so we are going on the first June ride this year.

I saw that you have gone to a treeless saddle. I bought a cheap one just to see if I would like it. Can you tell me what kind you have?
All eight of the saddles we had in our barn, none of them fit my Peruvian!! We have spotted saddle horses and missouri fox trotters.
